Known for riding off the front of group rides only to be caught in the first mile, we got back on a road bike and realized he must win the Donut Derby at least once in his life. Regularly pledging we’re "not climbers," we can be found as a regular attendee of Trexlertown's Thursday Night Training Criterium or sitting on the couch watching Paris-Roubaix reruns. We have been constant riders of the Hell of Hunterdon in New Jersey and raced the Tour of the Battenkill.

Review: Airscape Classic Coffee Canister

Coffee bean storage is important to fresh-tasting morning cups. In a desire to ditch the restaurant grade plastic container, the Airscape Classic Coffee Canister by Planetary Design somehow nominated itself to join the equipment on the countertop. With a brushed steel design, the Airscape canister looked great. Next was performance curiosity.

Coffee moves quickly around here. In under a week, bags are gone and the process of reordering has already taken place. Almost always the beans are recently roasted. Sometimes, in moments of desperation, the beans sat on a grocery store shelf longer than desired. To have a storage container that removes not only quality concern, it specifically eliminates oxygen to form a vacuumed seal. This locks the flavor longer.

The Airscape Classic Coffee Canister comes with its own storage bag.

The canister design is quite simple. The seven-inch can is capable of holding nearly one point of coffee beans. One pound of grounds was not attempted but likely fits in its entirety. With a food grade cylinder, Airscape recommends beyond coffee beans for storage. Meanwhile the Airscape plunger lid pushes out excess oxygen, leaving a tight seal over the beans. The handle on the plunger makes removal a snap, albeit with a vacuum sound that people nearby will notice. The lid rounds out the canister’s stackability making it the ultimate storage container.

Airscape Coffee Scoop is a great companion to the canister.

Though the Airscape has been in use for a short amount of time at the office, it’s a conversation starter. The stainless steel option matches the kitchen appliances and the Blue Line Coffee House logo represents our time spent in the Adirondacks, specifically in Inlet, NY, where the Black Fly Challenge is based. And though it’s recommended for stackable storage, perhaps on the pantry shelves, the Airscape container remains visible to all next to the coffee paraphernalia. Why add the extra step of retrieval when coffee is on the line?

To round out the collection, an Airscape Coffee Scoop was added. This stainless steel two tablespoon scooper also contains the Blue Line Coffee House logo. Simple additions to the coffee rack add to the appeal of making the morning mug. With its heft, the Coffee Scoop’s heirloom quality goes beyond its rust resistance.

The Airscape Classic Coffee Canister - plus the Coffee Scoop - by Planetary Design is a great addition to the coffee bar. Its appeal is timeless. Airscape also offers a customization program, so teams can add their logo to the mix. Maybe we’ll have creakybottombracket.com canisters for the holiday list. Either way, the Airscape Classic Coffee Canister checks the boxes of fashionable and functional. Anything that prolongs coffee is an easy sell around the office.
