Known for riding off the front of group rides only to be caught in the first mile, we got back on a road bike and realized he must win the Donut Derby at least once in his life. Regularly pledging we’re "not climbers," we can be found as a regular attendee of Trexlertown's Thursday Night Training Criterium or sitting on the couch watching Paris-Roubaix reruns. We have been constant riders of the Hell of Hunterdon in New Jersey and raced the Tour of the Battenkill.

Review: Pedal Mafia Cycling Club PMCC Sock

(2022) Pedal Mafia proclaims their Cycling Club sock is the comfiest sock to date, a bold proclamation considering the minimal role a sock plays in a cyclist’s kit. ‘Comfy’ is not entered into the sock conversation unless it is noticeably uncomfortable. To take them up on their claim, and making an excuse to PO the socks, we tried them out. Here is what we found:

Cyclists love socks. It ranks up there with the mid-ride coffee stop. There could be larger drawers of socks for cyclists than their bibs and jerseys combined. We have reviewed our fair share of socks- from free SWAG socks to pricey exotic materials, we have explored the gamut of the foot covering. Well, it was thought all socks had been slipped on until the Pedal Mafia Cycling Socks.

Slipping these socks on prior to the 2022 Tour of the Catskills, it was immediately clear the design was different. And to get to the point, these socks felt cushier and - dare I say - supremely comfortable. The socks felt thicker but not hotter, robust but not as a wool sock. After the seventy-five mile ride, I wanted to keep them on for the drive home, so I did. I couldn’t help but feel like these socks were different from others.

Perhaps the fresh-out-of-the-bag feel was the reason they felt so comfortable. Each ride they were reached for and continued to deliver ride after ride. Cycling shoes began to feel locked onto the foot rather than having areas of movement. Made of 50% Coolmax, 40% nylon, and 10% lycra, the socks are indeed built differently. Having sprung for the navy/ white colors, they manage to complete the cycling kit with subtlety while adding the extra flourish of comfort. Claiming to be the most durable sock on top of comfort, that longevity will be relied upon as these socks are used ride after ride. Pedal Mafia offers two other colors in the PMCC line- black/ white and white/ black.

And since these socks have been tested in late summer heat, comfort isn’t just the tangibles. Working with ventilated cycling shoes, the PMCC socks promoted air flow when needed. The relief felt on hot rides when a cool (ish) breeze spread throughout the shoes certainly falls in the comfort category.

Socks mostly come into the office. Few of them ever go. There’s always a case to be made to hold onto every sock pair. Since receiving the Pedal Mafia Cycling Club socks, all the other pairs feel less comfortable. Certainly a sock couldn’t be this ride changing or could it? I think it might be ride changing on account of how many times the availability of these socks tipped the apprehension to get out. If these socks are available, a ride is certainly going to happen. Pedal Mafia proclaims their comfort; we sustain that claim.
