Known for riding off the front of group rides only to be caught in the first mile, we got back on a road bike and realized he must win the Donut Derby at least once in his life. Regularly pledging we’re "not climbers," we can be found as a regular attendee of Trexlertown's Thursday Night Training Criterium or sitting on the couch watching Paris-Roubaix reruns. We have been constant riders of the Hell of Hunterdon in New Jersey and raced the Tour of the Battenkill.

Review: Striipe Design Performance Motoring Accessory Socks

(2018) A couple of years ago a major cycling company made a pair of socks that excited brand allegiants. It was not a crazy design nor was it a blank canvas of singular color. The reason they were so popular was the option to wear them with a suit to work and then leave them on for the evening group ride. The importance went even further with a subtle insignia just in case a coworker glanced at your socks and noticed the cycling emblem. In a move that befuddled the same crowd, the socks were only made for one season and never again.

There are motorsports liveries in the process of standing the test of time. It seems the Gulf colors get wrapped around a Le Mans entry each year. We spent a childhood trying to appropriately say Blaupunkt whilst adoring the blue and white design on their prototypes. Lowenbrau Porsches famous for their navy, gold, and white were headquartered just down our street in the eighties. But an iconic livery spanned many years and more than one discipline of racing: Martini & Rossi.

The navy, red, and light blue colors of the famous Martini racing sponsorship are perfectly captured by Striipe Design.

Martini, a vermouth distillery, laid its inconic stripes down some of the most memorable racing machines ever. The easily identifiable lines spanned the length of Porsche prototypes and rally cars. It’s been down the side of defunct Lancias in both prototypes and rally. Alfa Romeo, Lotus, Williams, these are hardly names to dismiss in auto racing, and an inspiring company has created a chance for the same crowd insignias at the office and group ride.

Striipe Design of California has created a line of socks, suitable for work and play, “inspired by the art, heritage and culture of motorsport.” Look no further for socks to span the gap between motor racing and cycling, between work and play. These socks are subtle in their color ways to pass as business attire. They are made in the USA of athletic materials to promote moisture wicking. That means they are exactly what is needed for warm and cool weather rides and those indoor training sessions. The socks are perfect for matching with Drive Coffee and watching a live feed of a race, be it cycling or Le Mans. And speaking of races, you’ll be able to identify us at Lime Rock for the GT race because we’ll be wearing these while spectating

We all have those favorite pair of socks. Some are favorites because they are dependable. Others are favorites because they have a story behind them. Some are special socks that will only come out for the perfect scenario. Striipe Design Martini (Blue) socks are the latter. Though they were used for the trainer tonight, they will be selected for warmer group rides. We’ll understand the nod you give us after we catch you staring at choice. If you ask, “Lancia?” expect us to work together with you in the pace line in principle. If we’re at a job interview, these are the perfect conversation piece after a well-timed leg cross to expose the secret weapon. We hope to hear the interviewee comment, “My favorite Lancia was the LC1. You have the job.” All because we have found the best all-round socks to put on your holiday list. Make no mistake this is the perfect gift. If someone knows Tom Boonen’s address, we got a present for him.
