Known for riding off the front of group rides only to be caught in the first mile, we got back on a road bike and realized he must win the Donut Derby at least once in his life. Regularly pledging we’re "not climbers," we can be found as a regular attendee of Trexlertown's Thursday Night Training Criterium or sitting on the couch watching Paris-Roubaix reruns. We have been constant riders of the Hell of Hunterdon in New Jersey and raced the Tour of the Battenkill.

Review: Curbar Long Sleeve Puncheur Jersey

Review: Curbar Long Sleeve Puncheur Jersey

(2017) Resident leadout man, Mike, lends his thoughts to the Curbar Longsleeve Puncheur Jersey. He has been relentlessly testing the Puncheur jersey all winter. Have a read.

It is that time of year in the northeastern United States when the cycling wardrobe can call for just about any article you own (or maybe all). Ride temperatures and conditions can dip, swing, and turn at any moment. With the winter riding in full swing it was time for a new addition to the winter wardrobe.

Enter: Curbar’s L/S Puncheur Jersey.

The presentation is clean and simple: royal blue is the base color with a subtle left pocket logo in the front and a graphic on the back panel. The view from the front reminds me of the high school issued track jackets. If you are still into the Mapei cycling jerseys of the 90’s that looked like one just exited one of the playpens they have at McDonald’s with the colorful plastic balls, this jersey is not your style.

Functionally this jersey has a lot of versatility and quality. The fleece lining on the interior make it heavy enough to pair with a winter base layer or vest and tackle rides below the 30℉ mark. Shed the heavy base layer and you can still rock this well into the spring season. The details? You can find elastic grippers on the cuffs of each sleeve securing the fit and allowing you to block out any wind that might catch between your gloves and jersey sleeve. The same material is found on the back bottom trim of the jersey preventing it from riding up. Three deep pockets are located on the back adequate for all the packing needs of a long winter ride. The Puncheur Jersey also features a zipper pocket on the right most pocket good for cell phone, camera, or pictures of loved ones for those rides you are not quite sure when you will return (gotta build the base!).

My favorite detail on the jersey is the shaped collar. The back of the collar is elongated giving your a little extra warmth around your neck. I cannot recall too many times on a ride that I thought to myself, “I wish the back of my neck was warmer”, but after a few cold rides with this jersey I noticed a big difference. Is this jersey making me softer? It is the little details on this jersey that make it a great value.

The most punishing riders weather in the hardest conditions. The gear that can meet all that winter and spring can throw them are the ones we all find ourselves reaching for while purging the closet in preparation for the day’s ride. Lay the foundation for this years riding in style and comfort. Add Curbar’s latest winter addition the Puncheur L/S Jersey to your winter/ spring wardrobe.

The Curbar LS Puncheur Jersey is available (and on sale) at www.curbarcycling.co.uk for £65. The fit is race cut. Size charts are available on the site. If you have any of the SS jerseys I find the LS to fit a little looser.

*Updated in 2017, Curbar has closed its doors and is no longer in business, which is a shame.
